This tea is a production from a tea company called Xiaguan.

The number 8653 is a recipe code that describes the origin of the tea.

"86" means the blend was created in 1986, the "5" is the size of the leaf 1 being smallest to 9 the largest, and "3" denoting the Xiaguan tea factory.

The "T" is a special note specific to Xiaguan, that signifies iron cake compression, as you will see in the photos that the compression hole is missing, as this was pressed without a stone press.

Vegetal and wildflower dry leaf aromas. Once rinsed, the aroma imparts a honey floral sweetness, and tobacco leaf aroma.

This tea has a quick upfront bitterness but quickly turns to huigan (returning sweetness); complex and layered with floral plum sweetness.

The age and maturity of this tea create a smooth blend characterized by floral notes, plums and darker fruits, along with an aftertaste that resembles the aroma of fresh tobacco leaves. There are hints of smoke similar to the 2006 8653 but unless you push the time on the steep, there isn't much of it.

The astringency of the tea, stemming from the increased tannins in the leaves due to aging and fermentation, triggers a salivating effect, which complements the dryness of the brew.

This puerh appreciates patient and attentive brewing, offering robust and bold initial notes that gently transition into complex flavours - a rewarding experience that's certainly worth the effort.
